I think when most people think of places to travel the Middle East isn’t the first thing that pops into their head…well, maybe except for my dad, which I will explain later. There are many places which may seem dangerous or are actually not safe to travel to, which I would have to agree with. There is a bit of uneasiness just thinking about it so why would anyone even bother spending the time and money to go there?
Well there are a few reasons why I made the journey and on two separate occasions. The first was a bit of an odd situation…my dad won a contest on the radio for 2 round trip airfare tickets to anywhere in the world. For radio purposes they asked where his destination of choice was and the first thing that popped into his head under pressure was “Cairo, so I can see the pyramids!” He had a few months to make his actual decision, but then thought why not go to Egypt? Granted that was back when I was 20 in 2009 just before things went south and became quite unsafe. I wouldn’t advise going now but hey, I’ve had friends go recently so it can be done! The second occasion was a long stopover on my way to Australia through Dubai, which is much more modern and probably safer than any other place I have ever traveled to.
Despite what many may think, the Middle East countries has so much incredible history and culture, and is home to some of the most amazing and oldest landmarks on this earth. As a woman I will have to say there are some areas where you have to be more conservative to respect the culture, but honestly you stand out regardless so the looks will come. I will touch on my experiences and advice in the additional pages. Looking back I was able to see some of the most incredible places in those countries and with such variety, both extremely old and so new they are still trying to break world records. As a traveler I would highly advise to visit both of these countries and hope you are able to at some point in your life!
